Prevention and Early Intervention Program

The Prevention and Early Intervention (PEI) program provides counseling and psychotherapy for adults, 55+, who have experienced a loss, trauma or other significant event which has led to feelings of sadness, worry, depression or anxiety. The PEI program promotes wellness and well-being by enabling clients to recognize and reduce risk factors, build resilience and increase support. By providing treatment and support when symptoms first appear, it may prevent more serious symptoms later.

Examples of life events which could benefit from PEI services include:

• Recent loss of a loved one
• Relationship difficulties
• Recent move
• Development of a disability or life threatening illness
• Life transition such as job loss or retirement

Services are provided by skilled clinicians trained in Evidence Based and Promising Practices which have demonstrated research supporting their effectiveness in successfully helping clients. These practices may include:

• Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT)
• Program to Encourage Active and Rewarding Lives (PEARLS)
• Problem Solving Therapy (PST)
• Seeking Safety (SS)
• Cognitive Behavioral Psychotherapy

Payment for services:
Services are available for people who meet the eligibility criteria, as determined by the Department of Mental Health. Individuals with Medi-Cal, Medicare/Medi-Cal, (this includes all the Cal Medi-Connect Health Plans) or who are low income with no insurance, are eligible.
